Plus simple self-care for writers during the busy holiday season
I’ve created another giveaway, and an additional gift for you, as part of my holiday sale.
(And paid subscribers: Make sure to scroll to the end for 80% off!)
But first: A few ways to support your creative spirit during the holiday season.
As folks rush around and make holiday preparations, it can be really easy to put our needs on the back burner.
As you spend the season doing things for others, what are you doing to care for you, too?
Are you taking some time for simple acts of self-love and self-care? Drinking water? Meditating? Are you giving yourself permission to daydream and play, even if for just a few moments?
Your creative spirit needs tending, too: And if you’re around folks who maybe don’t “get” your work, or are just really busy, it can feel hard to honor your creativity.
Here are a few ways I practice daily self-care when things are hectic:
Grounding: Feel your feet on the Earth, and take a few deep breaths to center and calm. I cover this more in Bloom, and here.
Trust your gut, and follow it: Part of why things feel overwhelming when we get busy is that we feel a loss of control over our time and priorities.
If you get an intuitive nudge, listen to it: Your inner wisdom might be easing the path down the road by (for example) encouraging you to NOT take on cooking a whole twenty-person dinner solo.
And you’re regaining a sense of control by actively choosing how to shape at least one part of your day.Simple daily care practices are your friend: This is not the time for big, elaborate multi-hour rituals.
Consistency is your friend here: The more consistently you practice self-care and spiritual hygiene, the more easily you can tap into feeling calm, grounded, and expansive, and the more that becomes your regular state of being (even when things are sideways).I do grounding rituals as needed, plus meditations and visualization (even 1 minute at a time adds up), journaling, and pleasure practices. These support me in falling in love with, and staying in love with my writing, but that influence weaves its way through the rest of my life.
Plus staying hydrated and eating nourishing foods, and walking at least a little. I also take nervine and adaptogenic herbs.
Most important on this list: I find ways to stay connected to my craft and creativity, even if I’m not sitting down and drafting text. Writing includes a LOT of things (more on that in a future issue), and actual drafting text is one small part of it. Daydream, explain your ideas to a loved one, read the materials you’re using for research, etc. Even for just 5 minutes.
And make sure to keep a notebook or your phone’s voice notes handy to record any bursts of inspiration you get during those few moments so you can access them later.
Also most important? Keeping a clear vision of your writing self post-holidays.
After the dust settles from all the gatherings and travel, what do you want to be doing?
Who do you want to be, as a writer, in 2025?
How do you want to feel about your work?
Self-care and self-love extend to planning ahead for your post-holiday self, too: Either through specific goals you set, or through building a structure around your writing practice that helps you stay in your pleasurable writing flow.
I’d be honored to support your writing vision in 2025, by helping you build a sustainable and consistent creative practice that you enjoy, whatever your craft may be.
60% off every class, plus a(nother) giveaway
Through December 10th, every Roots & Branches workshop, every self-study class, 1:1 program, and live workshop I offer is 60% off.
Just use the code HOLIDAY at checkout.
That includes Bloom: My 8 week program to build a lifelong, sustainable writing practice (and which is a steal given how much one-on-one support you get from me).
And it includes smaller self-study classes to help you find the joy in boundary setting, tap into and alchemize your unique creative rhythm, or weave pleasure into the everyday act of creating.
These classes are all opportunities to see how I work before you dive more deeply into larger, more intensive programs.
And it includes Hawthorn: A new private coaching program for experienced writers looking to fall back in love with their work: And which gives you more access to me than any other program I offer (I even mail you gifts!)
I’m only taking 2 Hawthorn clients for Q1 of 2025, and my live programs (Bloom and Writing Playground) have enrollment caps: So if you’re planning on joining, join now before they sell out (and remember to use HOLIDAY, for 60% off).
More gifts for you
Two giveaways:
To thank you for supporting small business with your holiday gifting (or self-gifting) this year, I’m doing a holiday giveaway:
Everyone who buys any class or product, big or small, is automatically entered into a giveaway (worth $200) for either:
a free intuitive guidance session
or a free 1:1 writing support session (where we could, for example, map out your writing goals for the year, or identify exactly what a sustainable writing routine looks like for you).
OR: Free entry to any program through my newly-opened partner business, The Culinary Curiosity School.
I’m offering two of these giveaways: So you’ll be entered for one of two winning spots with any purchase.
I’ll email winners in early January!
Just for newsletter subscribers: $30 readings
If you or your loved one is looking for clarity and inspiration on their path, I’m offering mini intuitive guidance sessions for $30 if you buy through December 10th.
These sessions are perfect for people wanting to deepen into their creative work, but who want clarity about how to do that, or who are facing obstacles in pursuing their work and want to find a path forward.
I offer a version for culinary professionals and other food-related folk (like fellow food writers) as well as a version for creatives more generally.
Just let me know which you want!
Readings are entirely remote: No appointment required, and will be done just after December 10th, in time for holiday gifting.
If a mini-reading would be a great gift for your loved one, please email me by December 10th to arrange it!

And finally, custom holiday gift cards
If you buy a program as a gift, I’m happy to send you a custom digital gift card (with your gift message, if you have one) that you can print or just email to your recipient.
Just email me your giftee’s name and gift message at hello@root-kitchens.com after you order and I’ll take care of the rest!
I can’t wait to support your creative unfolding in 2025.
Take 60% off when you enter the code HOLIDAY at checkout, and let me support you and your loved ones in transforming your writing lives!
